WQE supports World Cancer Day 2020
Students and staff joined hands in support of this year’s World Cancer Day.
On 4th February, our Student Executive set-up a henna stall near the Food Court at University Road where volunteers decorated the hands of fellow students with creative designs, raising vital funds for CLIC Sargent – Young Lives vs Cancer, a children’s charity that supports children, young people and families affected by cancer. Staff also dressed in magenta and black clothing, making donations for their themed dress sense.
The following day, students attended lunchtime moving showings with snacks and fresh samosas for sale.
Over £268 was raised for the charity.
Kiranpreet Kaur, President of WQE Student Executive, said: “We wanted to raise funds for CLIC Sargent because it does great work for under 25s. They provide emotional, practical and financial support to children, young people and their families who have been affected by cancer. Every day 12 families hear the devastating news that their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent social workers provide specialist counselling and work with schools, colleges and universities to keep young people on track with their studies, and make sure they are still involved with their friendship groups.”
